Calgary Flames experience Omicron outbreak

The Calgary Flames are experiencing an Omicron outbreak according to Elliotte Friedman of Rogers Sportsnet. Among the Flames who are impacted are 16 players and 11 staff members for 27 people overall. The 27 positive tests leads to questions about the overall success rate of double vaccinations for coronavirus, and how successful vaccinations can protect people against the pandemic. Omicron is a coronavirus variant.

The 27 cases might strengthen the argument among anti-vaxxers who were hesitant about getting vaccinated in the first place or have not been vaccinated at all. There is also a belief that those who are double vaccinated protect you from getting a severe case of coronavirus. Still, when you hear of the Flames situation, (one of the worst cases in terms of overall numbers to hit a professional sports organization in the world), one must question many things due to the fact the Flames were praising the fact the entire franchise had been double vaccinated during training camp.

The Omicron outbreak has led to four postponed games for the Flames this week–this past Monday in Chicago, this past Tuesday in Nashville, tonight at home against Toronto and on Saturday against Columbus. There have been 339,997 cases of coronavirus in Alberta, and 3,286 deaths.

The Flames are second in the Pacific Division with a record of 15 wins, seven regulation losses, and six losses in extra time for 36 points. Despite the four-game losing streak, they are still only three points back of the Anaheim Ducks for first in the Pacific.
