Brian Elliott of Newmarket, Ontario recorded his first shutout of the season and 39th shutout of his National Hockey League career on Tuesday. Elliott made 19 saves as the Philadelphia Flyers beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 3-0 at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Elliott made eight saves in the first period, eight saves in the second period and three saves in the third period. The fact that a Penguins team with superstars Sidney Crosby of Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia and Evgeni Malkin in their lineup could only find a way to take three shots on net in an entire period is somewhat stunning.

Of Elliott’s 39 career shutouts, that was the third with the Flyers and first in the 2019-20 NHL regular season. He also has 25 with the St. Louis Blues, nine with the Ottawa Senators and two with the Calgary Flames.

In 2019-20, Elliott has a record of 12 wins, five regulation losses and three losses in extra time. He has a goals against average of 2.89 and a save percentage of .904.

The Flyers meanwhile have a record of 27 wins, 17 regulation losses and six losses in extra time for 60 points. Even though they are 10 games above .500, they are only tied for fifth place with the Columbus Blue Jackets in the tough Metropolitan Division.
