Tampa Bay Lightning left winger Brandon Hagel of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan tied the franchise record for most assists in a game with five on Monday. He accomplished the feat in an 8-2 Lightning triumph over the Colorado Avalanche at the Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida.

Hagel is the fourth Lightning player to have five assists in a game. The other three are Canadian. The others are Mark Recchi of Kamloops, British Columbia (in an 8-6 Lightning win over the Calgary Flames on March 1, 2009), Martin St. Louis of Laval, Quebec (in an 8-7 Lightning win over the Philadelphia Flyers on November 18, 2010), and Darren Raddysh of Toronto, Ontario (in a 7-0 Lightning win over the Flyers on March 9, 2024).

In the Lightning won over the Avalanche, Hagel assisted on two goals scored by Canadians. They were by Anthony Cirelli of Etiobicoke, Ontario, with 14 seconds left in the first period, and by Brayden Point of Calgary, Alberta at 9:38 of the second period on the power-play. The other players who scored for the Lightning where Hagel got assists were Jake Guentzel, Nikita Kucherov and Luke Glendening. Guentzel’s goal was on the power-play, and Glendening’s goal was shorthanded.

In 2024-25, Hagel has nine goals and 17 assists for 26 points in 20 games. He is a +10 with 18 penalty minutes, three power-play points, two shorthanded points, one game-winning goal, 55 shots on goal, three faceoff wins, 10 blocked shots, six hits, five takeaways, and 26 giveaways. The game-winning goal came on November 14 in a 4-1 Lightning win over the Winnipeg Jets. Ironically, Hagel scored from Raddysh. Defenseman Emil Martinsen Lilleberg had the other assist at 3:10 of the second period as the Lightning went up 2-0 at the time.

With the win, the Lightning improve to a record of 11 wins, seven regulation losses and two losses in extra time for 24 points. They are in third place in the Atlantic Division, and four points back of the division leading Toronto Maple Leafs.
