There was a minor National Hockey League trade on Monday. The Nashville Predators have traded centre Philip Tomasino of Mississauga, Ontario to the Pittsburgh Penguins according to nhl.com. In return, the Predators are receiving a fourth round draft pick in the 2027 National Hockey League Entry Draft.
Tomasino has played the last four seasons with the Predators. In 11 games this season, he has one assist for one point. Tomasino also has 17 shots on goal, four faceoff wins, three blocked shots, 10 hits, two takeaways, and eight giveaways.
In the 11 games Tomasino played for the Predators this season, Nashville only won once. That was on November 9 in a 4-0 Predators shutout win over the Utah Ice Hockey Club.
Last season Tomasino was significantly more effective offensively than he has been in 2024-25. He averaged almost a point every two games. Tomasino had seven goals and 13 assists for 20 points in 41 games. He was a -6 with 25 penalty minutes, two game-winning goals, four power-play points, 62 shots on goal, three faceoff wins, 18 blocked shots, 13 hits, 16 takeaways, and 28 giveaways.
Tomasino’s first game-winning goal last season came on December 16, 2023 in a 3-1 Predators win over the Washington Capitals. Tomasino scored from Cole Smith at 13:26 of the second period. At the time the Predators went up 2-1. Tomasino’s second game-winning goal last season came on December 21, 2023 in a 4-2 Predators win over the Philadelphia Flyers. Tomasino put the Predators up 3-2 with four minutes and one second left in the third period. Colton Sissons of North Vancouver, British Columbia had the lone assist.
