Despite winning the bronze medal at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing last month, St. John’s Brad Gushue at times seemed uncomfortable reading the curling ice. He struggled in various games, especially in losses to eventual Olympic gold medalist Niklas Edin of Sweden.

That has not been the case so far in Lethbridge, as Gushue has a perfect record of five wins and zero losses, and is the only undefeated team in Pool B. On Tuesday evening, Gushue had a statement win as he beat Manitoba champion Mike McEwen 9-6. Gushue controlled the game throughout, as he had deuces in the first, third, fifth, and eighth ends.

In Pool B, Gushue has a half game lead over Northern Ontario’s Brad Jacobs. At 5-1, Jacobs’s only loss came to Gushue, as he was beaten 8-7 by the 2006 Olympic gold medalist on Sunday night. Meanwhile, there are five teams in the running for third in Pool B. Team Wildcard’s Jason Gunnlaugson of Winnipeg is in the driver’s seat at 4-2. Manitoba’s Mike McEwen and Nova Scotia’s Paul Flemming are at 3-2, while Quebec’s Mike Fournier, and British Columbia’s Brent Pierce are at 2-3.

In Pool A, Matt Dunstone’s Team Wildcard squad, and Brendan Bottcher’s Team Canada squad are undefeated at 6-0 and 5-0 respectively. Kevin Koe’s Alberta team is in third at 5-1.
