
The Toronto Blue Jays have signed outfielder Anthony Santander of Isla Margarita, Venezuela to a significant contact according to Shi Davidi of Rogers Sportsnet on Monday. The terms of the deal are five years and $92.5 million. This means that Santander will be making $18.5 million per season.
The Blue Jays are the second Major League Baseball franchise Santander will have played for in his career. He played the previous eight seasons with the Baltimore Orioles.
Santander, an American League All-Star for the first time, batted .235 with 44 home runs and 102 runs batted in this past season. During 155 games, 665 plate appearances, 595 at bats, he scored 91 runs and had 140 hits, 25 doubles, two triples, two stolen bases, 58 walks, 301 total bases, and five sacrifice flies, with an on base percentage of .308, and a slugging percentage of .506. The two triples came in two Orioles wins. The first came in a 5-0 Orioles win over the Kansas City Royals on April 21, and the second came in a 6-5 Orioles win over the New York Yankees on July 14. The two stolen bases also came in two Orioles wins. The first came in an 8-4 Orioles win over the Texas Rangers on July 20, and the second came in a 9-5 Orioles win over the Cleveland Guardians on August 4.
