Logan Thompson named NHL First Star of the Week

According to nhl.com, Washington Capitals goaltender Logan Thompson of Calgary, Alberta was named the National Hockey League first star of the week on Monday for the week from January 13-19, 2025. He posted a record of three wins and zero losses, with two shutouts, a goals against average of 0.33, save percentage of .984.

Thompson began the week on January 14 by blanking the Anaheim Ducks 3-0. He made 19 saves for his fifth career National Hockey League shutout. Thompson then recorded his sixth career NHL shutout on January 16. He made 24 saves in a 1-0 Capitals overtime win over the Ottawa Senators. Thompson then finished the week on January 18 by making 18 saves on 19 shots in a 4-1 Capitals win over the Pittsburgh Penguins. The only player to score a goal on Thompson all week was Penguins right winger Bryan Rust.

So far this season, Thompson has a spectacular record of 21 wins, two regulation losses and three losses in extra time. He has  a goals against average of 2.09, save percentage of .925 and two shutouts.

The Capitals, meanwhile, are the best team in the National Hockey League. They have a record of 31 wins, 10 regulation losses, and five losses in extra time for 67 points. Washington leads the second place Winnipeg Jets by two points. The Capitals next play in Edmonton on Tuesday night.
