Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette named American League Player of the Week

Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette of Orlando, Florida has been named the American League Player of the Week for the week from September 5-11. He was honoured the same week that Canadian Freddie Freeman of the Los Angeles Dodgers was recognized as the National League Player of the week.

In seven games, Bichette batted .500 with five home runs and 13 runs batted in. During 34 plate appearances, he scored 11 runs, and had 16 hits, four doubles, and two walks. Bichette’s most notable game of the week came on September 5 in an 8-4 win over the Baltimore Orioles. In this contest, Bichette had three home runs and five runs batted in.

Bichette is now batting .281 on the season with 24 home runs and 87 runs batted in. During 606 plate appearances, he scored 82 runs and had 159 hits, 38 doubles, one triple, nine stolen bases, 36 walks, 271 total bases, two times being hit by a pitch, two sacrifice flies, an on base percentage of .325, and a slugging percentage of .479.

Then on Monday, Bichette continued his offensive magic by hitting a two-run home run in the eighth inning as the Blue Jays beat the Tampa Bay Rays 3-2. With the win, the Blue Jays improved to a record of 79 wins and 61 losses, and are now in second place in the American League East.
