Canadian Olympic gold medalist Ann-Renee Desbiens of La Malbaie, Quebec recorded her first career Professional Women’s Hockey League shutout on Saturday. She accomplished the feat in a 2-0 Montreal win over Ottawa at Toronto Dominion Place in Ottawa, Ontario.

Desbiens, who won a gold medal for Canada at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing, made 31 saves overall. She made eight saves in the first period, two saves in the second period, and 21 saves in the third period.

The Montreal goal scorers were Canadian Olympic gold medalist Laura Stacey of Mississauga, Ontario and Maureen Murphy. Like Desbiens, Stacey won a gold medal for Canada in women’s hockey at the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing.

In 15 games this season, Desbiens has a record of seven wins, four regulation losses, and two losses in extra time. She has a goals against average of 2.16 and a save percentage of .926.

With the win, Montreal moved into first place in the PWHL standings. They have a record of 10 regulation wins, three wins in extra time, five regulation losses and five losses in extra time for 41 points overall. Montreal now has three more points than Toronto. However, it should be noted that Toronto has three games left, while Montreal only has one.
