Amy Fraser of Halifax, Nova Scotia won the bronze medal on Saturday in a women’s halfpipe skiing event in Secret Garden, China. This is Fraser’s second World Cup medal as she won the silver medal in Copper Mountain, Colorado on December 17, 2022.
Fraser posted a score of 79.25 points. Ailing Eileen Gu of China won the gold medal with a score of 94.25 points. Hanna Faulhauber of the United States won the silver medal with 82.25 points. Fraser reached the podium by 8.75 points over Riley Jacobs of the United States, who finished in fourth place with 70.5 points.
Fraser was the oldest athlete in the eight woman final. She is 28 years of age. The other seven competitors were born in 2000 or later.
This is the first of five World Cup women’s halfpipe skiing events this season. The other four are in North America. Copper Mountain will be the host site on December 15, Mammoth Mountain, California will be the host site on February 2, and then Calgary, Alberta, Canada will be the host site for two consecutive women’s halfpipe skiing events on February 15 and 17. That will be a busy weekend in Calgary as the city is also hosting the World Speed Skating Championships and the Scotties Tournament of Hearts in that time. The medal for Fraser will give her confidence as she prepares for the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milan/Cortina d’Ampezzo.
