Alexandria Loutitt wins gold in women’s ski jumping at 2023 World Championships

Canadian Olympic bronze medalist Alexandra Loutitt of Calgary, Alberta is now a world champion. In a gigantic Canadian sports story, Loutitt posted a score of 264.4 points to take the gold medal in women’s large hill ski jumping event at the 2023 International Ski Federation World Nordic Skiing Championships in Planica, Slovenia.

Loutitt, who won a bronze medal in the mixed team ski jumping event at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing, with Matthew Soukup of Calgary, Abigail Strate of Calgary, and Mackenzie Boyd-Clowes of Toronto, Ontario, became the first Canadian ski jumper in Canadian sports history to win the gold medal in ski jumping at a World Championship.

Loutitt made Canadian sports headlines on January 13 when she became the first Canadian woman to win a World Cup ski jumping event. Loutitt won the gold medal in Zao, Japan.

In the women’s large hill ski jumping competition in Planica, Slovenia on Wednesday, the ski jumpers used a ski jump that was 138 metres. Maren Lundby of Norway won the silver medal with a score of 254 points. Loutitt and Lundby shared the best score of 130.9 points after the first jump. Katharina Althaus of Germany won the bronze medal with a score of 245.9 points. Loutitt reached the podium by 21.5 points over Nozomi Maruyama of Japan, who was in fourth place with 242.9 points. The gold medal for Loutitt will give her confidence as she prepares for the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milan/Cortina d’Ampezzo.
