Nova Scotia won their fourth gold medal and New Brunswick won their third gold medal of the 2023 Canada Winter Games in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island on Wednesday. Nova Scotia’s gold medal came from Bridget MacLean of Glen Haven in female parallel giant slalom snowboarding. New Brunswick’s gold medal came from Marisol Savoie of Moncton in female judo, specifically the 44 kilogram division.

In the female parallel giant slalom snowboarding, MacLean defeated silver medalist Felecity Geremia of Calgary, Alberta in the big final. Rose Savard-Ferguson of Baie St-Paul, Quebec won the bronze medal, after beating Nova Scotian Nicola Jane May Dempsey in the small final. Nova Scotia won their three prior gold medals in karate, curling and cross-country skiing.

In the female judo, Savoie defeated Maya Roy of Val-des-Sources, Quebec in the gold medal bout 5-0. Roy won the silver medal. What is interesting is that no bronze medal was awarded as there were only three competitors. Brooke MacArthur of Prince Edward Island, who finished in third, did not win a bronze medal. On Tuesday however, Denyse Dawe of Edmonton did win bronze when finishing third out of three in the female 2.5 kilometre classic Para Nordic Standing cross country skiing event.

Quebec leads the overall medal standings with 111. They won 40 gold medals, 32 silver medals and 39 bronze medals.
