Alek Manoah and George Springer named to 2022 MLB All-Star Game

Two more Toronto Blue Jays have been named to the 2022 Major League Baseball All-Star Game as reserves according to the Associated Press on Sunday. They are starting pitcher Alek Manoah and outfielder George Springer. Manoah and Springer join outfielder Vladimir Guerrero Jr. of Montreal, Quebec, and catcher Alejandro Kirk, who were already named starters.

Manoah has had an outstanding start to the 2022 MLB regular season. In 17 games and 107.6 innings pitched, he has a record of nine wins and four losses with an earned run average of 2.34. Manoah also has had 97 strikeouts and given up 81 hits, 28 earned runs, 25 walks, and a WHIP (walks and hits per innings pitched) of 0.99. Manoah leads the Blue Jays in wins, earned run average and innings pitched.

Springer will be playing in his fourth Major League Baseball All-Star game as he represented the Houston Astros and the American League for three straight years from 2017 to 2019. In 77 games, 288 at bats and 331 plate appearances, he is batting .250 with 17 home runs and 40 runs batted in. Springer has scored 50 runs, and had 14 doubles, two triples, eight stolen bases, 31 walks, 141 total bases, four sacrifice flies, six times being hits by a pitch, an on base percentage of .331, and a slugging percentage of .490.
