Svensson made golf headlines on Thursday for his first round score of 60, his best ever score for one round in his PGA career. In 18 holes, he had nine birdies and one eagle for a remarkable score of -11. Svensson birdied the first, fifth, ninth, 10th, 13th, 15th, 16th, 17th, and 18th holes, and eagled the seventh hole.
There is a two-way tie for second place at this time. Svensson is tied with American Ben Kohles of Dallas, Texas. Jager is at -14.
Meanwhile, there are five more golfers in contention. There is a four-way tie for fourth place at -12 and two strokes back. There you can find Sweden’s Henrik Norlander, and Americans Matt McCarty, Harris English and Sam Ryder. Norlander has a Canadian connection as the lost in a playoff to Mackenzie Hughes of Hamilton, Ontario at the 2016 RSM Classic in St. Simons Island, Georgia. Meanwhile, American Lee Hodges is three strokes back at -11 and all alone in eighth place.
Svensson has won once on the PGA Tour. Ironically, his win came at the 2022 RSM Classic.
