Zach Hyman records his first career NHL playoff hat trick

Edmonton Oilers left winger Zach Hyman of Toronto, Ontario collected his first career National Hockey League Playoff hat trick and sixth of his career on Monday in a 7-4 Oilers win over the Los Angeles Kings at Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta. With the win, the Oilers won game one of their best out of seven Western Conference first round series with the Kings.

Hyman scored a goal in every period. He opened the scoring at 6:52 of the first period from Connor McDavid of Richmond Hill, Ontario and Evan Bouchard of Oakville, Ontario on all-Canadian goal. Hyman then put the Oilers up 3-0 at 4:50 of the second period from McDavid and Adam Henrique of Brantford, Ontario. Then Hyman on the power-play, had his hat trick at 6:17 of the third period from McDavid and Bouchard again to put the Oilers up 6-2.

Hyman, who added an assist for four points, was one of five Oilers with a multi-point game. The others were McDavid (five assists), Bouchard (four assists), Henrique (one goal and one assist for two points), and Leon Draisaitl (one goal and one assist for two points). The other Oilers goal scorers were Ryan Nugent-Hopkins of Burnaby, British Columbia and Warren Foegele of Markham, Ontario.

Hyman’s other five hat tricks came in the regular season. He scored thrice in a 6-3 Oilers win over the Nashville Predators on December 13, 2022, in a 4-1 Oilers win over the Seattle Kraken on November 11, 2023, in a 6-1 Oilers win over the Carolina Hurricanes on December 6, 2023, in a 3-1 Oilers win over the Ottawa Senators on January 6, 2024, and in a 7-2 Oilers win over the Washington Capitals on March 13, 2024.
