Toronto Blue Jays first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. of Montreal, Quebec received his first American League Gold Glove Award on Tuesday. An award is presented to a player at each position in each league on annual basis for defensive excellence. Guerrero had a fielding percentage of .990 this season as he committed only 10 errors.
Guerrero had 969 putouts and 47 assists at first base. He also turned 80 double plays in 128 games and 1119 innings in the position that is given the number three by official scorekeepers. Guerrero also played two innings this season at third base.
The National League gold glove winner at first base was Christian Walker of the Arizona Diamondbacks. The other American League gold glove winners for 2022 were Andres Gimenez of the Cleveland Guardians (second base), Ramon Urias of the Baltimore Orioles (third base), Jeremy Pena of the Houston Astros (shortstop), Steven Kwan of the Guardians (left field), Myles Straw of the Guardians (center field), Kyle Tucker of the Astros (right field), Jose Trevino of the New York Yankees (catcher), Shane Bieber of the Guardians (pitcher), and DJ LeMahieu of the Yankees (utility). The other National League gold glove winners for 2022 were Brendan Rogers of the Colorado Rockies (second base), Nolan Arenado of the St. Louis Cardinals (third base), Dansby Swanson of the Atlanta Braves (shortstop), Ian Happ of the Chicago Cubs (left field), Trent Grisham of the San Diego Padres (center field), Mookie Betts of the Los Angeles Dodgers (right field), J.T. Realmuto of the Philadelphia Phillies (catcher), Max Fried of the Braves (pitcher) and Brendan Donovan of the Cardinals (utility).
