Vladimir Guerrero Jr. of Montreal, Quebec was named the American League player of the week on Monday for the week from May 13-19, 2019. In the process, at age 20, Guerrero Jr. becomes the youngest Blue Jays player in franchise history to receive the honour. In two games against the San Francisco Giants and four games against the Chicago White Sox, Guerrero batted .333, with five runs scored, four home runs, seven hits, nine runs batted in, three walks, and an excellent slugging percentage of .905.

In the Blue Jays 7-3 win over the Giants at Oracle Park in San Francisco, California on May 14, Guerrero hit his first two Major League Baseball home runs. Ironically, they came in the same game. The first home run came in the first inning with one out off of Giants starting pitcher Nick Vincent. The solo home run put the Blue Jays up 1-0 at the time.

The second home run came in the sixth inning as Guerrero Jr. hit a three run home run that scored pitcher Trent Thornton and second baseman Eric Sogard. It was a strong game offensively for Thornton as he had two base hit singles.

Despite the fact that Guerrero received the personal honour, the Blue Jays are struggling in the standings at the moment. With a record of 20 wins and 28 losses, they are currently in fourth place in the American League East. They are 10.5 games back of the first place New York Yankees and five and a half games back of the Cleveland Indians in the American League wildcard.
