Three Canadians competing at 2024 Presidents Cup

The Presidents Cup starts September 26 at the Royal Montreal Golf Club in Montreal, Quebec. On Tuesday, three Canadians wee selected by Canadian captain Mike Weir of Sarnia, Ontario for the International Team. They were Corey Conners of Listowel, Ontario, Taylor Pendrith of Richmond Hill, Ontario, and Mackenzie Hughes of Hamilton, Ontario.

Conners is ranked 38th in the world, Pendrith is 45th in the world, and Hughes is 65th in the world. They were three of six players chosen by Weir. The other three were Min Woo Lee of Australia, Christian Bezuidenhout of South Africa and Si-woo Kim of South Korea.

Prior to Weir’s selections, six golfers were chosen based on the Official World Golf Rankings. They were Hideki Matsuyama of Japan, Sung-jae Im of South Korea, Adam Scott of Australia, Tom Kim of South Korea, Jason Day of Australia, and Byeong-hun An of South Korea. Of the players on the International Team are three major champions. Matsuyama won the Masters in 2021, Scott won the Masters in 2013, and Day won the PGA Championship in 2015.

This is the second time that the Presidents Cup has been in Canada. The first time was in 2007. Like the Presidents Cup this month, the 2007 Presidents Cup was also in Montreal.
