Team Canada wins silver in Mixed Team Aerials World Cup in Lake Placid

Team Canada won the silver medal in a mixed team aerials World Cup in Lake Placid, New York on Sunday. The Canadian team was comprised of Alexandra Montminy of Quebec City, Quebec, Canadian Olympic bronze medalist Miha Fontaine of Magog, Quebec and Alexandre Duchaine of Quebec City, Quebec.

Team Canada posted a total score of 289.17 points. China won the gold medal with a score of 328.41 points. Australia won the bronze medal by a score of 277.63 points. The Canadian medalists reached the podium by 55.39 points. Another Canadian team finished in fourth place with a score of 233.78 points.

Miha’s father Nicolas is the current coach of the Canadian aerials program. Nicolas Fontaine won the gold medal in men’s aerials at the 1997 World Freestyle Skiing Championships in Nagano, Japan.

This was the first mixed team aerials event of the 2024-25 freestyle skiing season. There will be two World Cup mixed team aerials events this season. The other is in Beidahu, China on February 24.

Miha Fontaine won a bronze medal in the mixed team aerials event alongside Marion Thenault of Sherbrooke, Quebec and Lewis Irving of Quebec City, Quebec at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing. The silver medal in Lake Placid will give Montminy, Fontaine and Duchaine confidence as they prepare for the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milan/Cortina d’Ampezzo.
