Team Canada wins gold in Women’s 3×3 basketball World Series in Edmonton

Team Canada won the gold medal in the Women’s 3×3 Basketball World Series in Edmonton, Alberta on Sunday. In the gold medal game, the Canadian team comprised of Michelle and Katherine Plouffe of Edmonton, Paige Crozon of Humboldt, Saskatchewan, and Kacie Bosch of Lethbridge, Alberta defeated China 16-14 in overtime.

Michelle Plouffe led Canada in the gold medal game with 11 points and three key assists. Katherine Plouffe led Canada with eight rebounds.

Team Canada won all five of their games in the tournament. In Pool A, they defeated Poland 22-10 and Japan 16-8. Canada then beat Chile 22-9 in the quarterfinals and the United States 18-10 in the semifinals.

In Canada’s win over Poland, Michelle Plouffe led Canada with 11 points and three key assists. Katherine Plouffe led Canada with six rebounds. In Canada’s win over Japan, Katherine Plouffe led Canada with seven points, eight rebounds and four key assists. In Canada’s win over Chile, Crozon led Canada with 10 points. Michelle Plouffe led Canada with five rebounds, and each Plouffe sister had one assist. In Canada’s win over the United States, Katherine Plouffe led Canada with nine points and seven rebounds, and Michelle Plouffe led Canada with four key assists.

This is the second time this year Canada won gold in a Women’s 3×3 Basketball World Series event in 2023. They previously finished first in Poitiers, France on June 28. The gold medal for Canada will give them confidence as they prepare for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
