Heading into the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, there were huge expectations for Canadian swimming superstar Summer McIntosh of Toronto, Ontario. Well, on Monday she delivered in a huge way, as she literally clobbered the pack in her specialty.

McIntosh got off to a great start, and nobody made a genuine push over the next three minutes. McIntosh delivered and came up huge. She posted a time of 4:27.71, and beat her nearest competitor, Katie Grimes of the United States by 5.69 seconds. Grimes won the silver medal with a time of 4:33.40, and American Emma Weyant won the bronze medal with a time of 4:34.93. MacIntosh earned a medal by 7.96 seconds. Freya Colbert of Great Britain finished in fourth place, with a time of 4:35.67.

This was McIntosh’s second medal of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. She previously won silver in the women’s 400 metre freestyle on Saturday. McIntosh still has the women’s 200 metre butterfly with the final on Thursday (12:30 pm MT). She also will be hoping to win gold or a medal in the women’s 200 mete individual medley (August 3 at 1:01 pm MT). The way McIntosh swam the first 200 metres in the 400 metre individual medley, she should be a heavy favourite to come out on top. Canada now has five medals (two gold, 0ne silver and two bronze).
