
Edmonton Oilers goaltender Stuart Skinner of Edmonton, Alberta recorded his fourth career National Hockey League shutout on Thursday. He accomplished the feat in a 5-0 Oilers win over the San Jose Sharks at the SAP Center in San Jose, California.
Skinner made 25 saves overall (seven saves in the first period, 12 saves in the second period, and six saves in the third period). William Eklund led the Sharks with six shots on goal.
Offensively, four Canadians on the Oilers had a multi-point game. Ryan McLeod of Mississauga, Ontario, Zach Hyman of Toronto, Ontario, and Evan Bouchard of Oakville, Ontario had one goal and one assist for two points, while Darnell Nurse of Hamilton, Ontario had two assists. The other Oilers goal scorers were Ryan Nugent-Hopkins of Burnaby, British Columbia and Leon Draisaitl.
In 2023-24, Skinner has a record of 13 wins, nine regulation losses, and one loss in extra time. He has a goals against average of 2.91 and a save percentage of .891. This was Skinner’s second shutout this season. On November 24, he blanked the Washington Capitals 5-0.
This was the second time in Skinner’s career he shutout the Sharks. He previously blanked them on February 14, 2022 in a 3-0 Oilers win. Skinner also shutout the Los Angeles Kings 2-0 on March 30, 2023.
With the win, the Oilers improved to a record of 16 wins, 15 regulation losses, and one loss in extra time for 33 points. They are five points back of the Arizona Coyotes and Nashville Predators for a playoff spot.
