Stephen Ames of Vancouver, British Columbia won the 2023 Mitsubishi Electric Classic on Sunday. He shot a three-round score of -19 and beat Miguel Angel Jimenez of Malaga, Spain by four strokes at the TPC Sugarloaf Country Club in Duluth, Georgia.

Ames’s first round score was seven-under-par 65. That was followed by a second round score of eight-under-par 64, and a third round score of four-under-par 68.

This was the second Champions Tour (senior golf tour) title for Ames in 2023. He previously won the Trophy Hassan II in Morocco back in February. Ames shot a three-round-score of -9 to beat Mark Hensby of Melbourne, Australia by five strokes.

Ames is one of two golfers who have won multiple times on the Champions Tour in 2023. The other is 2001 PGA Championship winner David Toms of Monroe, Louisiana. Toms first won the Cologuard Classic in Tucson, Arizona on March 5, and then the Galleri Classic in Rancho Mirage, California on March 26.

This was Ames’s fourth career PGA Tour Champions victory. He previously beat 1985 and 1993 Masters champion Bernhard Langer of Anhausen, Germany to win the 2017 Mitsubishi Electric Classic, and then beat fellow Canadian Mike Weir of Sarnia, Ontario to win the 2021 Principal Charity Classic in Des Moines, Iowa. Weir is the only Canadian to win a men’s major championship as he won the 2003 Masters.

The 2023 Mitsubishi Electric Classic was the last Champions Tour event on the schedule before the first Champions Tour major of the year. That will be the Regions Tradition in Birmingham, Alabama which starts on Thursday.
