Skylar Park of Winnipeg, Manitoba won her third medal of the 2022 World Taekwondo Grand Prix Series on Saturday according to CBC Sports. In the women’s 57 kilogram division of the 2022 World Taekwondo Grand Prix Final in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Park won the bronze medal.
Park was initially ranked third in the event, and due to the fact she was among the top four seeds, she received a first round bye to the quarterfinals. In the final eight, Park defeated Patrycja Adamkiewicz of Poland 2-0, before losing 2-0 to Hatice Kubra Ilgun of Turkey, the second seed, in the semifinals. In the bronze medal match, Park beat Nada Laaraj of Morocco 2-0. Zongshi Luo of China continued her dominance in the women’s 57 kilogram weight class in the 2022 World Taekwondo Grand Prix circuit as she won her fourth title of the year in winning the gold medal. Luo beat silver medalist Ilgun 2-1 in the final.
Luo won the first three Grand Prix events of the year in Rome, Italy (July 3-5), Paris, France (September 2-4), and Manchester, England (October 21-23). In those three events, Park came away with two medals. She won the bronze medal in Rome and the silver medal in Paris. The bronze medal in Riyadh on Saturday will give her confidence as she prepares for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
