Six Canadians in 2024 MLB postseason

The 2024 Major League Baseball postseason begins on Tuesday. Among the players in the baseball playoffs this year are six Canadians. Let’s take a look at who they are.

Tyler Black–

The Milwaukee Brewers first baseman from Toronto, Ontario is the son of TSN broadcaster Rod Black. In 18 games this season, Tyler Black batted .204 with zero home runs and two runs batted in. During 57 plate appearances and 49 at bats, he scored four runs, and had 10 hits, two doubles, three stolen bases, seven walks, 12 total bases, an on base percentage of .316, and a slugging percentage of .245. Black’s doubles came in two Brewers wins–his first two MLB games. The first was in an 8-2 Brewers win over the Tampa Bay Rays on April 30, and the second came in a 7-1 Brewers win over the Rays on May 1. The two RBIs also came in Brewers wins. The first was a RBI single in a 6-2 Brewers win over the San Diego Padres on June 23, and the second was a RBI ground out on August 15 in a 6-4 Brewers win over the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Brewers won the National League Central and will face the New York Mets in the National League Wildcard Series.

Freddie Freeman–

The Los Angeles Dodgers All-Star first baseman batted .282 with 22 home runs and 89 runs batted in. During 147 games, 542 at bats, and 638 plate appearances, Freeman scored 81 runs and had 153 hits, 35 doubles, two triples, nine stolen bases, 78 walks, 258 total bases, eight sacrifice flies, an on base percentage of .378, and a slugging percentage of .476. Freeman’s two triples came in Dodgers wins. The first on May 4, in an 11-2 Dodgers win over the Atlanta Braves, and the second on June 1 in a 4-1 Dodgers win over the Colorado Rockies.

Bo Naylor– 

The Cleveland Guardians catcher from Mississauga, Ontario batted .201 with 13 home runs and 13 home runs and 39 runs batted in. During 123 games, 354 at bats, and 389 plate appearances, Naylor scored 39 runs, and had 71 hits, 10 doubles, two triples, six stolen bases, 29 walks, 124 total bases, two sacrifice bunts, two sacrifice flies, and an on base percentage of .264 and a slugging percentage of .350. The two sacrifice flies came in Guardians wins. The first came on May 28 in a 13-7 Guardians win over the Colorado Rockies, and the second came on July 2 in a 7-6 Guardians win over the Chicago White Sox. The two sacrifice bunts came in Guardians wins. The first came in a 3-1 Guardians win over the Philadelphia Phillies on July 26, and the second came in a 7-5 Guardians win over the Kansas City Royals on August 28.

Josh Naylor–

The Guardians first baseman from Mississauga, and older brother of Bo, was an All-Star for the first time in 2024. He batted .243 with 31 home runs and 108 runs batted in. During 152 games, 563 at bats, and 633 plate appearances, Naylor has scored 84 runs, and had 137 hits, 27 doubles, six stolen bases, 58 walks, 257 total bases, four sacrifice flies, an on base percentage of .320, and a slugging percentage of .456.

Erik Sabrowski–

The Guardians rookie relief pitcher from Edmonton, Alberta, pitched in eight games this season, and had a record of zero wins and zero losses, with a perfect earned run average of 0.00. In 12 2/3 innings, he gave up six hits and four walks, to go along with 19 strikeouts, one save, and an outstanding WHIP (walks and hits per innings pitched) of 0.79. The save came in a 5-1 Guardians win over the St. Louis Cardinals on September 20.

Cade Smith– 

The Guardians rookie relief pitcher from Abbotsford, British Columbia pitched in 74 games this season, and had a record of six wins and one loss, with a great earned run average of 1.91. During 75 1/3 innings pitched, Smith gave up 51 hits, 16 earned runs, one home run, and 17 walks, to go along with 103 strikeouts, one save, 28 holds, and an excellent WHIP of 0.90. Smith’s save came on May 22 in a 6-3 Guardians win over the New York Mets.
