Shai Gilgeous-Alexander makes game-winning basket in career-high performance

Oklahoma City Thunder shooting guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of Toronto, Ontario had a game to remember on Wednesday in a dramatic 121-120 Thunder win over the Washington Wizards. With 1.9 seconds left in the fourth quarter, and the Thunder trailing 120-118 at the time, he made a 27-foot three-point jump shot to give Oklahoma City the one-point win.

Gilgeous-Alexander also tied a career-high in points with 42. He also had 42 points in a game on February 24, 2021, in a 102-99 Thunder win over the San Antonio Spurs. In 35 minutes on Wednesday, Gilgeous-Alexander made 14 of 22 field goals, 12 of 17 free throws, and two of three three-point attempts. He also had seven assists, and one block, and was a +9.

What Gilgeous-Alexander has been able to accomplish this season is phenomenal. He is averaging 32.3 points per game, 5.9 assists per game, and 4.5 rebounds per game. In 35.9 minutes per game, Gilgeous-Alexander has a field goal percentage of .546, three-point percentage of .400, and a free throw percentage of .906. Gilgeous-Alexander’s 32.3 points per game is third in the National Basketball Association. Only Luka Doncic of the Dallas Mavericks (34.4 points per game) and Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors (32.8 points per game) are averaging more points per game this season than Gilgeous-Alexander.

On the season, the Thunder are at seven wins and eight losses. They are tied for 10th place in the Western Conference with the Minnesota Timberwolves.
