Sebastien Toutant wins World Cup men’s slopestyle snowboarding gold in Switzerland

Canadian Oympic gold medalist Sebastien Toutant of L’Assomption, Quebec won the gold medal in a World Cup slopestyle snowboarding competition in Laax, Switzerland on Wednesday. Toutant, who won the gold medal in big air snowboarding at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang, won his fourth World Cup gold medal in snowboarding and fifth World Cup medal overall.

In Laax on Wednesday, Toutant posted a winning score of 87.25 points. Redmond Gerard of the United States won the silver medal with a score of 85.45 points. Justus Henkes of the United States won the bronze medal with a score of 82.33 points. Toutant reached the podium by 5.72 points over Staale Sandbech of Norway, who finished in fourth place with a score of 81.53 points.

Toutant has previously won World Cups in big air snowboarding in Stockholm, Sweden on November 20, 2010 and in Stoneham, Quebec on February 19, 2011. Toutant’s other World Cup slopestyle snowboarding win was in Quebec City, Quebec on February 12, 2017. Toutant also finished second to Canadian Olympic silver medalist Max Parrot of Cowansville, Quebec in a World Cup men’s big air snowboarding competition in Copper Mountain, Colorado on December 17, 2016. Parrot won the silver medal for Canada in the men’s slopestyle snowboarding at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang.

This was the first of five World Cup slopestyle snowboarding events this season. Calgary is hosting a World Cup on February 16. The gold medal for Toutant will give him confidence as he prepares for the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing.
