
Montreal Canadiens goaltender Samuel Montembeault of Becancour, Quebec recorded his fifth career National Hockey League shutout on Tuesday. He accomplished the feat in a 4-0 Canadiens win over the Carolina Hurricanes at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec.
Montembeault made 20 saves overall. He made five saves in the first period, six saves in the second period, and nine saves in the third period. Jaccob Slavin, Jackson Blake and Mikko Rantanen led the Hurricanes with three shots each.
Offensively, it was a strong game for Canadiens captain and centre Nick Suzuki of London, Ontario. He had one goal and two assists for three points.
So far this season, Montembeault has a record of 20 wins, 21 regulation losses and three losses in extra time. He has four shutouts with a goals against average of 2.90 and a save percentage of .899.
Montembeault’s first NHL career shutout came on February 23, 2022 in a 4-0 Canadiens win over the Buffalo Sabres. That was followed by shutouts on October 9, 2024 in a 1-0 Canadiens win over the Toronto Maple Leafs, in a 3-0 win over the Edmonton Oilers on November 18, 2024, and in a 3-0 Canadiens win over the Nashville Predators on December 5, 2024.
With the win, the Canadiens improved to a record of 27 wins, 26 regulation losses and five losses in extra time for 59 points. They are five points back of the Columbus Blue Jackets for a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
