Rachel Homan of Ottawa, Ontario threw fourth stones for the winning team of the 2022 Tour Challenge in Grande Prairie, Alberta on Sunday. The team of Homan, Tracy Fleury of Sudbury, Ontario, second Emma Miskew of Ottawa, Ontario, and lead Sarah Wilkes of Toronto, Ontario defeated another Canadian team, skipped by Kerri Einarson of Gimli, Manitoba, in the final by a score of 8-4.
For Homan it was her 12th Grand Slam title of her Women’s World Curling Tour career. She previously won the 2012 Masters, the 2013 Masters, the 2015 National, the 2015 Masters, the 2015 Canadian Open, the 2017 Champions Cup, the 2018 National, the 2018 Tour Challenge, the 2018 Champions Cup, the 2019 Canadian Open, and the 2021 Champions Cup. When Homan won her first Tour Challenge in 2018, it was in Thunder Bay, Ontario.
This past week in Grande Prairie, Homan won her first Grand Slam title with Fleury. The two Canadian curling superstars teamed up in the offseason. Prior to beating Einarson in the final, Homan had a Pool B record of three wins and one loss. She defeated Eun-ji Gim of South Korea 5-4 on Tuesday, Daniela Jetsch of Germany 6-3 on Wednesday, and Jennifer Jones of Winnipeg, Manitoba 7-3 on Thursday. Homan’s only defeat came on Friday, when she was beaten by Japan’s Satsuki Fujisawa by a score of 9-5. Homan then beat Kaitlyn Lawes of Winnipeg, Manitoba 9-6 in the quarterfinals and then Isabella Wrana of Sweden 10-6 in the semifinals.
