Rachael Karker wins World Cup women’s halfpipe skiing gold in Colorado

Canadian Olympic bronze medalist Rachael Karker of Guelph, Ontario won the gold medal in a Women’s Halfpipe Skiing World Cup event in Copper Mountain, Colorado on Saturday. For Karker, who won the bronze medal in women’s halfpipe skiing at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing, it was her second World Cup gold medal and 11th World Cup medal overall. It was an outstanding weekend for Canadians on the pipe as Amy Fraser of Halifax, Nova Scotia won the silver medal in the women’s halfpipe skiing event, while Brendan Mackay of Calgary, Alberta and Noah Bowman of Calgary, Alberta each won medals in the men’s halfpipe event. Mackay won silver and Bowman won bronze.

In the Women’s Halfpipe Skiing World Cup on Saturday, Karker had 89.5 points. Fraser won the silver medal with 85.25 points. Kelly Sildaru of Estonia won the bronze medal with 82 points. Karker earned a medal by 13 points and Fraser earned a medal by 8.75 points over fourth place finisher Svea Irving of the United States, who had 76.5 points.

Karker’s first World Cup women’s halfpipe skiing gold medal also came in the United States. It came in Aspen, Colorado on March 21, 2021. This was Fraser’s first ever World Cup medal.

In the Men’s Halfpipe Skiing World Cup on Saturday, Mackay won the silver medal with a score of 92.5 points. Bowman won the bronze medal with a score of 91 points. Birk Irving of the United States won the gold medal with 93.75 points. Mackay earned a medal by 2.25 points and Bowman earned a medal by 0.75 points. Alex Ferreira of the United States finished in fourth place with 90.25 points.

Mackay has now won six World Cup medals (two gold medals, three silver medals and one bronze medal). Bowman has now won 12 World Cup medals (two gold medals, five silver medals and five bronze medals). The medals for Mackay, Bowman, Karker and Fraser will give them confidence as they prepare for the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milan/Cortina d’Ampezzo.
