Rachael Karker wins World Cup women’s halfpipe skiing bronze in Calgary

Canadian Olympic bronze medalist Rachael Karker of Guelph, Ontario won the bronze medal at a World Cup women’s halfpipe event at Canada Olympic Park in Calgary, Alberta, Canada on Saturday. For Karker, who won the bronze medal in women’s halfpipe skiing at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing, it was her 16th World Cup career medal.

Karker posted a score of 87 points. Fanghui Li of China won the gold medal with a score of 90.5 points. Zoe Atkin of Great Britain won the silver medal with a score of 87.75 points. Karker reached the podium by half a point over Canadian Olympic gold medalist Cassie Sharpe of Calgary, who placed first at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang.

In the Women’s Halfpipe Skiing World Cup standings, Karker finished in sixth place with 196 points. She was behind Atkin and Li, who were tied for first with 305 points, and shared the Crystal Globe. Ailing Eileen Gu of China was in third place with 300 points. Svea Irving of the United States was in fourth place with 210 points, and Sharpe was in fifth place with 205 points.

The women’s halfpipe skiing event at the World Freestyle Skiing and Snowboarding Championships will take place on March 30 from Engadin, Switzerland. The bronze medal will give Karker confidence as she prepares for the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milan/Cortina d’Ampezzo.
