Rachael Karker and Brendan Mackay deliver with World Cup halfpipe skiing medals in Colorado

Rachel Karker of Guelph, Ontario, and Brendan Mackay of Calgary, Alberta both won World Cup halfpipe skiing medals this past weekend in Copper Mountain, Colorado in the first World Cup halfpipe skiing event of the season. Karker won a silver medal and Mackay won a bronze medal on Friday.

In women’s World Cup halfpipe skiing action, Karker posted a score of 90 points. Ailing Eileen Gu of China won the gold medal with 90.5 points. Kelly Sildaru of Estonia won the bronze medal with 88.75 points. Karker reached the podium by three points over Brita Sigourney of the United States, who finished in fourth place with 87 points.

This was Karker’s eighth World Cup medal. She has won one gold medal, five silver medals and two bronze medals.

In men’s World Cup halfpipe action, Mackay posted a score of 91.5 points. Alex Ferreira of the United States won the gold medal with a score of 93.5 points and Nico Porteous of the United States won the silver medal with a score of 92.25 points. Mackay reached the podium by 3.25 points over American Birk Irving, who had 88.25 points.

This was Mackay’s third World Cup medal. He previously won a silver in Calgary on February 14, 2020, and a silver again in Aspen, Colorado on March 21, 2021. The medals for Mackay and Karker will give them confidence as they prepare for the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing.
