Canada’s top horse racing competition will not be cancelled in 2020. According to the Canadian Press on Monday, the Queen’s Plate will take place on September 12 at Woodbine Racetrack in Toronto, Ontario.

The Queen’s Plate was initially to be held on June 27, but was postponed because of coronavirus. There are currently 22, 384 cases of coronavirus in the province of Ontario and 1919 deaths.

The Queen’s Plate is part of The Canadian Triple Crown. It precedes the Prince of Wales Stakes and the Breeders’ Stakes. The Prince of Wales Stakes was to take place on July 21 at the Fort Erie Racetrack and the Breeders’ Stakes was to take place on August 15 at the Woodbine Racetrack. However, the Prince of Wales Stakes and Breeders’ Stakes will definitely be rescheduled as well because according to the Canadian Press report, the Queen’s Plate will continue to be the opening leg of the 2020 Canadian horse racing’s triple crown.

The Queen’s Plate is the longest-running horse race in North America. It began in 1860, with the first champion being Don Juan. It should be noted that the event was known as the King’s Plate from 1901 to 1952 when the Canadian head of states were King Edward VII, George V, Edward VIII, and George VI.
