According to The Canadian Press on Friday, the 2020 IndyCar race in Toronto, Ontario has been postponed. It was initially scheduled to take place at the Exhibition Grounds on July 12 but is being moved to a later date that has not been announced yet, because of coronavirus. There are presently 22,313 cases of coronavirus in the province of Ontario and 1,858 deaths.

In addition to the IndyCar race, it was announced that the Taste of Danforth and the Beaches International Jazz Festival in Toronto will also not take place as scheduled. Unlike the IndyCar race which has been postponed at this time, it appears that the Taste of Danforth and the Beaches International Jazz Festival have been cancelled.

The 2020 IndyCar season is scheduled to commence on June 6 with the Genesys 300 at the Texas Motor Speedway from Fort Worth, Texas. IndyCar’s annual signature race, the Indianapolis 500, will now take place August 23. It was initially supposed to take place on May 24.

Two Canadians are set to drive part-time in IndyCar in 2020. Rookie Dalton Kellett of Stouffville, Ontario is set to compete in eight races and James Hinchcliffe of Oakville, Ontario is set to compete in three races. Kellett is competing for A.J. Foyt Enterprises and Hinchcliffe is competing for Andretti Autosport.
