Phil Wizard of Toronto, Ontario, won the silver medal on Saturday in the Red Bull BC One World Final in Paris, France. This was the 20th Red Bull BC One World Final, and this year’s event was prestigious as it took place in the Roland Garros tennis complex. Roland Garros hosts the second major on the tennis calendar every June.

Wizard won three matches in the Red Bull BC One World Final before losing to the eventual gold medalist Hong 10 of South Korea. He defeated Amaro of Italy in the round of 16, Kastrito of Mexico in the quarterfinals, and Issin of Japan in the semifinals. Issin and Danny Dan of France shared the bronze medal.

This was the second time in three years that Wizard won the silver medal in the Red Bull BC One World Final. Two years ago in 2021 in Gdansk, Poland, Wizard lost out to Amir of Kazakhstan in the final. There he beat Nori of Japan in the round of 16, Bart of Brazil in the quarterfinals, and Lee of the Netherlands in the semifinals. Lee and Flea Rock of the United States shared the bronze medal.

The silver medals will give Wizard confidence as he prepares for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. However it was announced this past week that breakdancing will not be part of the Olympic program for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. The sports that will be included are flag football, cricket, baseball, softball, lacrosse, and squash.
