Paula Findlay wins silver at the Canadian Open for women’s triathlon

Paul Findlay of Edmonton, Alberta has won the silver medal in women’s triathlon at the 2022 Canadian Open on Saturday from Edmonton according to John Levison of tri247.com. Findlay posted an overall time of 3:33:16.

Ashleigh Gentle of Australia won the gold medal with a time of 3:30:54. Chelsea Sadoro of the United States won the bronze medal with a time of 3:34:56. Findlay reached the podium by one minute and 54 seconds. Laura Philipp of Germany finished in fourth place with a time of 3:35.10.

Over a decade ago, Findlay was the best female triathlete in the world. She won five International Triathlon Union World Championship Series events in a span of two years in 2010 and 2011. Her victories in 2010 came in London, Great Britain and Kitzbuehel, Austria. Then in 2011, Findlay won in Sydney, Australia, Madrid, Spain, and Kitzbuehel again.

Then injuries were something Findlay had to deal with on a regular basis. She was dealing with an ailment in her hip, stress fracture in her neck, along with iron deficiency anemia.

It will be interesting to see if the silver medal for Findlay will help her get her triathlon career back on track. The medal will give her confidence as she prepares for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
