Pamela Ware of Greenfield Park, Quebec has won Canada’s second medal at the 2023 World Aquatics Championships in Fukuoka, Japan. On Friday, Ware posted a third place score of 332 points in the women’s three metre springboard diving competition. The bronze medal will give her confidence as she prepares for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
Ware reached the podium by 4.05 points. Maddison Keeney of Australia finished in fourth place with 327.95 points. Yiwen Chen of China won the gold medal with 359.5 points and Yani Chang of China won the silver medal with 341.5 points.
It was a great start for Ware. Her score of 67.5 points actually put her into the lead after the first dive.
This was Ware’s fourth medal at the World Aquatics Championships. She previously won the silver medal in the women’s three metre synchronized diving event with two-time Olympic medalist Jennifer Abel of Montreal, Quebec at the 2015 World Aquatics Championships in Kazan, Russia, the bronze medal in the women’s three metre springboard at the 2013 World Aquatics Championships in Barcelona, Spain, and the bronze medal in the women’s three metre synchronized springboard diving event with Abel in 2013 in Barcelona. Abel’s Olympic medals came in synchronized springboard diving. The first was a bronze medal with Emile Heymans of Greenfield Park at the 2012 Olympic Games in London, and the second was a silver medal with Melissa Citrini-Beaulieu of Saint-Constant, Quebec at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2021.
Canada’s first medal at the 2023 World Aquatics Championships came on Wednesday. Caeli McKay of Calgary, Alberta won bronze in the women’s 10 metre platform diving event.
Also on Friday, Canada lost 15-11 to France at the 2023 World Men’s Water Polo Championships. Canada will next play the United States in the playoffs on Sunday.
