The Edmonton Oilers remain alive in the 2024 Stanley Cup Finals. On Tuesday, the Oilers defeated the Florida Panthers 5-3 in game five of the best out of seven series. With the win, the Oilers remained alive in the postseason, but still trail the Panthers three games to two.
Oilers captain and centre Connor McDavid of Richmond Hill, Ontario arguably played the best game of his life. He had two goals and two assists for four points. One of his assists was a highlight reel pass to Canadian Olympic gold medalist Corey Perry of New Liskeard, Ontario. Perry won a gold medal for Canada at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver and the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi.
Two Canadians on the Oilers had a multi-point game. The other was defenseman Evan Bouchard of Oakville, Ontario, who had three assists.
All five Oiler goal scorers were by Canadians. In addition to McDavid and Perry, the Oilers goal scorers were Connor Brown and Zach Hyman of Toronto. Brown’s goal was an impressive shorthanded goal where he intercepted a Panthers pass at the point in their own zone. Brown then skated down the ice and scored a breakaway goal on Sergei Bobrovsky to open the scoring at 5:30 of the first period. Game six of the Stanley Cup Finals returns to Edmonton on Friday.
