Oilers name Stan Bowman general manager

The Edmonton Oilers have named Stan Bowman of Montreal, Quebec as their new general manager according to ESPN on Wednesday. The position was open due to the retirement of Ken Holland of Vernon, British Columbia.

Stan Bowman is the son of Scotty Bowman of Verdun, Quebec. Scotty Bowman is in the Hockey Hall of Fame after his 1244 National Hockey League regular season wins, the most all-time. Scotty Bowman coached the St. Louis Blues, Montreal Canadiens, Buffalo Sabres, Pittsburgh Penguins and Detroit Red Wings from 1967 to 2002.

Stan Bowman was previously the general manager of the Chicago Blackhawks from 2009 to 2021. Prior to that, Bowman was the Blackhawks’s director of hockey operations (2005 to 2007), and the Blackhawks assistant general manager (2007 to 2009). From 2009 to 2015, Bowman was the Blackhawks’s vice president of hockey operations, and from 2015 to 2020, was the Blackhawks’s senior vice president of hockey operations. Then from 2020 to 2022, Bowman was the Blackhawks’s president of hockey operations. In addition to being the Oilers general manager, Stan Bowman will be the Oilers’s executive vice president of hockey operations.

While with the Chicago Blackhawks, Bowman won three Stanley Cups in 2010, 2013 and 2015. In 2010, the Blackhawks beat the Philadelphia Flyers in six games. In 2013, the Blackhawks beat the Boston Bruins in six games, and in 2015, the Blackhawks beat the Tampa Bay Lightning in six games.
