OHL beats Russia 3-1 at 2018 CIBC Canada Russia Hockey Series

The Ontario Hockey League defeated Russia 3-1 on Thursday in game three of the 2018 CIBC Canada Russia Hockey Series from the Progressive Auto Sales Arena in Sarnia, Ontario. The series features the top prospects from the Canadian Hockey League and the top prospects from Russia.

Sault. Ste. Marie Greyhounds center Barrett Hayton of Peterborough, Ontario led the OHL in scoring with two points. A first round draft pick, fifth overall by the Arizona Coyotes in the 2018 National Hockey League Entry Draft, Hayton notched a goal and an assist. He registered an assist to open the scoring on a goal by Isaac Ratcliffe, a left winger from London, Ontario, who plays for the Guelph Storm. Hayton then scored an insurance marker at 9:42 of the second period from Ryan Merkley (a defenseman with the Guelph Storm from Oakville, Ontario) and Brady Lyle (a defenseman with the Owen Sound Attack from North Bay, Ontario).

The OHL game winning goal was scored by MacKenzie Entwistle on a penalty shot at 18:05 of the first period. Entwistle is a right winger from Georgetown. Ontario, who plays with the Hamilton Bulldogs.

It was also a solid goaltending performance from Vancouver Canucks prospect Michael Dipietro of Amherstburg, Ontario. The Windsor Spitfires netminder made 18 saves on 19 shots.

The Canadian Hockey League now leads the six game series two games to one. Russia came away with an impressive 3-1 win over the Western Hockey League from Langley, British Columbia on Tuesday. The next game will be Monday from Oshawa, Ontario.
