Nova Scotia wins five gold medals in canoeing at the 2022 Canada Games

It was a phenomenal day for Nova Scotia in canoeing at the 2022 Canada Games in Niagara Falls, Ontario. The Maritime province came away with five gold medals.

In the C1 500 metre female division, Julia Lilley Osende of Dartmouth won gold with a time of 2:08.82. Amelia Wojtyk of Ottawa, Ontario won silver with a time of 2:14.700. Konwana’Ke:ren Diabo of Kahnawake, Quebec won the bronze with a time of 2:14.770.

In the C1 500 metre male division, Andrew Billard of Hammonds Plains won gold with a time of 1:51.03. Ydris Hunter of Ottawa, Ontario won the silver with a time of 1:51.71. Edouard Beaumier of Trois-Rivieres, Quebec won the bronze with a time of 1:55.39.

In the K1 500 metre male division, Alex Canning of Dartmouth won gold with a time of 1:42.7. Justin Lavigne of Montreal, Quebec won silver with a time of 1:43.95. Cameron Low of Toronto won bronze with a time of 1:48.05.

In the C2 1000 metre female division, Ava Carew of Dartmouth and Jessica Mackay of Halifax won gold with a time of 4:18.27. Zoe and Amelia Wojtyk of Ottawa won silver with a time of 4:21.14. Elizabeth Desrosiers-McArthur and Alexia Gagnon of Lac Beauport, Quebec won the bronze medal with a time of 4:34.67.

In the K2 1000 metre male division, Ian Gaudet and Cole Parsons of Dartmouth won gold with a time of 3:24.9. Mathieu Gilbert and Nathan Kone of Trois-Rivieres, Quebec won silver with a time of 3:25.23. Lucas Stein and Low of Toronto won bronze with a time of 3:29.38.

Nova Scotia now has seven gold medals, one silver medal and four bronze medals for 12 medals overall. Keilen Bellis of Halifax won Nova Scotia’s first two gold medals in swimming (male 50 metre and 100 metre breaststroke). Ontario continues to lead with 105 medals (46 gold, 27 silver and 32 bronze).
