Colorado Avalanche centre Nicolas Roy of Amos, Quebec scored his second career National Hockey League Stanley Cup Playoff overtime goal. He accomplished the feat in a 2-1 Avalanche win over the Los Angeles Kings at the Ball Arena in Denver, Colorado on Tuesday. With the Avalanche win, Colorado leads the best out of seven first round series two games to none.

Roy scored from Nazem Kadri of London, Ontario, and defenseman Josh Manson at 7:44 of the extra period. It is interesting that both Roy and Kadri both came to Colorado at the trade deadline from Canadian teams. Roy was traded from the Toronto Maple Leafs for a first round pick in 2027 and a fifth round pick in 2026. Kadri was traded from the Calgary Flames with a fourth round pick in 2027 for Victor Olofsson, prospect Maxmilian Curran, a first round pick in 2028 and a conditional second round pick in 2027.

Roy’s first National Hockey League Stanley Cup Playoff overtime goal came on June 20, 2021 in a 2-1 Golden Knights win over the Montreal Canadiens. Roy scored from Max Pacioretty and Alex Tuch at 1:18 of the extra period in game four of the Stanley Cup semifinals from the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec.

In the regular season, Roy had eight goals and 17 assists for 25 points in 74 games. He had a zero plus/minus rating with 23 penalty minutes, two power-play points, one shorthanded point, 76 shots on goal, 377 faceoff wins, 40 blocked shots, 71 hits, 21 takeaways and 62 giveaways.

The two power-play points came in games that Roy won. The first came in a 7-2 Maple Leafs win over the Pittsburgh Penguins on November 29. Roy scored an all-Canadian goal with Max Domi of Winnipeg, Manitoba and Bobby McMann of Wainwright, Alberta picking up the assists at 13:58 of the second period which put Toronto up 5-1 at the time. The second came in a 5-1 Avalanche win over the Seattle Kraken on March 12, 2026. Roy scored from Nathan MacKinnon of Halifax, Nova Scotia and Brock Nelson with one minute and 12 seconds left in the first period to put Colorado up 3-0.

In the 2026 Stanley Cup Playoffs, Roy has one goal for one point. He is a +1 with one game-winning goal, five shots on goal, four faceoff wins, four blocked shots, six hits, and two giveaways.
