National Hockey League centre Derick Brassard of Hull, Quebec retired on Sunday at the age of 36 according to Rogers Sportsnet. He played 16 seasons in the NHL with the Columbus Blue Jackets, New York Rangers, Ottawa Senators, Pittsburgh Penguins, Florida Panthers, Colorado Avalanche, New York Islanders, Arizona Coyotes, Philadelphia Flyers and Edmonton Oilers from 2007 to 2023. Brassard was with the Blue Jackets from 2007 to 2013, the Rangers from 2013 to 2016, the Senators from 2016 to 2018, and again from 2022 to 2023, the Penguins from 2017 to 2019, the Panthers in 2019, the Avalanche in 2019, the Islanders from 2019 to 2020, the Coyotes from 2020 to 2021, the Flyers from 2021 to 2022, and the Oilers in 2022.
In 1013 games, Brassard had 215 goals and 330 assists for 545 points. He was a -28 with 465 penalty minutes, 163 power-play points, 33 game-winning goals, 1935 shots on goal, 5275 faceoff wins, 216 blocked shots, 1477 hits, 425 takeaways, and 417 giveaways.
In the postseason, Brassard had 25 goals and 43 assists for 68 points in 118 games. He was a +8 with 56 penalty minutes. Brassard had an overtime winner in the playoffs on May 2, 2014 in a 3-2 Rangers win over the Penguins in game one of the Eastern Conference semifinal. He also had two hat tricks. The first hat trick came on May 26, 2015 in a 7-3 Rangers win over the Tampa Bay Lightning in game six of the 2015 Eastern Conference Final. The second hat trick came on March 20, 2021 in a 5-1 Coyotes win over the Anaheim Ducks.
