
Nathan MacKinnon of Halifax, Nova Scotia set a Colorado Avalanche franchise record for most points in a season on Thursday. The veteran centre finished the 2023-24 National Hockey League regular season with 140 points, and has one more point than Peter Stastny, who had 139 points with the Quebec Nordiques in the 1981-82 season. MacKinnon accomplished the feat with the Avalanche in a 5-1 Colorado win over the Edmonton Oilers at Ball Arena.
MacKinnon notched his 140th point with a primary assist on a power-play goal by Valeri Nichushkin at 7:37 of the first period. At the time, the Avalanche went up 3-0. It was MacKinnon’s second point of the game. MacKinnon’s first point was an assist on a goal by Mikko Rantanen.
In 2023-24, MacKinnon has 51 goals and 89 assists for 140 points in 82 games. He is a +35 with 42 penalty minutes, 48 power-play points, nine game-winning goals, a NHL-high 405 shots on goal, 607 faceoff wins, 69 blocked shots, 55 hits, 42 takeaways, and 82 giveaways. MacKinnon’s 140 points were the second most in the NHL this season. Nikita Kucherov led the NHL with 144 points. Kucherov’s 144 points was a Lightning franchise record.
The Avalanche finished the season with 107 points. They were in third place in the Central Division with a record of 50 wins, 25 regulation losses, and seven losses in extra time.
