
Colorado Avalanche centre Nathan MacKinnon of Halifax, Nova Scotia has been named the National Hockey League First Star of the month for February on Saturday. In eight games. he had four goals and eight assists for 12 points. MacKinnon was a +3 with four penalty minutes, four power play goals, six power-play points, one game-winning goal, 38 shots on goal, four hits, one blocked shot, and 106 faceoff wins.
MacKinnon’s most impressive performance was on February 7 in a 5-4 Avalanche win over the Edmonton Oilers. He had one goal and three assists for four points and one blocked shot. MacKinnon also had three assists in a 4-2 Avalanche win over the Calgary Flames on February 6, and two goals and one assist for three points in a 5-1 Avalanche win over the New Jersey Devils on February 26. This past Wednesday, MacKinnon scored the game-winning goal at 2:57 of the third period from Cale Makar of Calgary, Alberta and Martin Necas.
This season, MacKinnon leads the NHL with 68 assists and 91 points. He also has 23 assists, is a +19 with 31 penalty minutes, 29 power-play points, four game-winning goals, 247 shots on goal, 570 faceoff wins, 47 blocked shots, 31 hits, 21 takeaways, and 91 giveaways.
