Arizona Diamondbacks rookie starting pitcher Mitch Bratt of Newmarket, Ontario recorded his first Major League Baseball win and first Major League Baseball quality start on Wednesday. He accomplished the feat in a 10-4 Arizona Diamondbacks win over the San Diego Padres at Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona.
Bratt had the best outing of his MLB career. He threw seven shutout innings and gave up only one hit. Bratt had nine strikeouts and gave up three walks. Of Bratt’s 92 pitches, 55 pitches were strikes.
Initially, Bratt was drafted in the fifth round, 134th overall, by the Texas Rangers in the 2021 Major League Baseball Draft. He was then traded from the Rangers to the Diamondbacks in the blockbuster trade that saw Merrill Kelly go to Texas on July 31, 2025.
This season, Bratt has pitched in six games and has a record of one win and one loss, with an earned run average of 3.90. In 27 2/3 innings pitched, he has given up 24 hits, 12 earned runs, four home runs and 18 walks, to go along with 21 strikeouts, one quality start, and a WHIP (walks and hits per innings pitched) of 1.52.
With the win, the Diamondbacks improved to a record of 61 wins and 54 losses. They are in second place in the National League West, and are tied with the Philadelphia Phillies for the second wildcard spot in the National League.
