Team Canada has remained undefeated at the 2026 Hlinka Gretzky Cup at Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta. On Wednesday, Canada beat Sweden 7-4 to go through Group A with a perfect record of three wins and zero losses.
Canada is one of two teams undefeated at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup, The other is the United States, who won Group B with a record of three wins and zero losses.
The Canadians already clinched first place in Group A prior to their game against Sweden. They will now face Finland in the semifinals on Friday. The other semifinal on Friday will have the United States versus Slovakia.
The Hlinka Gretzky Cup is rather unique because teams play round robin games in three consecutive days. That is not something you typically see in international hockey tournaments, however it is something we have seen at the Spengler Cup.
On Wednesday, two players led Team Canada with three points each. Edmonton Oil Kings centre Kayden Stroeder of Lanigan, Saskatchewan and Regina Pats centre Maddox Schultz of Regina, Saskatchewan both had one goal and two assists. Three more Canadians had a multi-point game. Prince Albert Raiders defenseman Brock Cripps of Victoria, British Columbia had one goal and one assist for two points, Regina Pats centre Liam Pue of Langley, British Columbia had one goal and one assist for two points, and Guelph Storm centre Jaakko Wycisk of Tecumseh, Ontario had two assists. The other three Canadian goal scorers were Niagara IceDogs centre Ryerson Edgar of Holland Landing, Ontario, Newfoundland Regiment centre Benjamin Veitch of St. John’s, Newfoundland and Saint John Sea Dogs centre Alexis Joseph of Lachenaie, Quebec.
