Mikael Kingsbury of Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts, Quebec has won his third Olympic medal for Canada. On Saturday, Kingsbury won the silver medal in men’s moguls at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing.
In the third moguls final, Kingsbury posted a second place score of 82.18 points. Walter Wallberg of Sweden won the gold medal with a score of 83.23 points. Ikuma Horishima of Japan won the bronze medal with a score of 81.48 points.
Kingsbury earned a medal by 2.74 points over Benjamin Cavet of France. Cavet was in fourth place with a score of 79.44 points.
One major reason why Wallberg won the gold medal was because of his speed down the moguls hill. Wallberg had a time of 23.7 seconds, while Kingsbury had a time of 25.02 seconds. Wallberg had the edge over Kingsbury when it came to air, while Kingsbury had the edge over Wallberg when it came to turns. It should be noted that turns are 60% of the total score, while speed and air are 20% each.
Prior to Saturday, Kingsbury won the gold medal in moguls at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang and the silver medal in moguls at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi. He won one of two medals for Canada on Saturday. The other belonged to Isabelle Weidemann of Ottawa, Ontario in the women’s 3000 metre speed skating.
