Mathieu Joseph records his first career NHL hat trick

Ottawa Senators right winger Mathieu Joseph of Laval, Quebec recorded his first career National Hockey League hat trick on Friday. The fourth-year forward scored thrice in a 5-2 Senators win over the Detroit Red Wings at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Michigan.

All three of Joseph’s goals were in the third period. He put the Senators up 3-1 at 3:36 of the third period from Tyler Ennis of Edmonton, Alberta, and Colin White. Joseph then put the Senators up 4-1 with a goal from Tim Stutzle at 13:19 of the period. Then Joseph scored the game-winning goal with three minutes and 55 seconds left in the third period with an unassisted marker into an empty net.

Joseph had a four-point game. On the Senators’s first goal of the game, he picked up the lone assist on a shorthanded goal by Austin Watson at 5:07 of the first period. In addition to this being Joseph’s first career hat trick, it was also his first career four-point game.

On the season, Joseph has 11 goals and 12 assists for 23 points in 63 games with the Senators and Tampa Bay Lightning. He is a +7 with 27 penalty minutes, four shorthanded points, three game-winning goals, 78 shots on goal, 19 faceoff wins, 23 blocked shots, 98 hits, 40 takeaways, and 18 giveaways.
