Mason Marchment records first career NHL hat trick

Mason Marchment of Uxbridge, Ontario recorded his first career National Hockey League hat trick on Friday. He scored thrice in a 6-2 Florida Panthers win over the Minnesota Wild at the Xcel Energy Center in Saint Paul, Minnesota.

Marchment scored Florida’s first goal of the game at 10:02 of the first period to tie the game at one. The goal was an unassisted marker and his ninth of the season. Then at 12:29 of the first period, Marchment scored from Sam Reinhart of Vancouver, British Columbia, and Anton Lundell to put the Panthers up 2-1. Marchment’s hat trick marker came with five minutes and 27 seconds left into an empty net to put Florida up 6-2. Lundell picked up another assist.

In 24 games this season, Marchment now has 11 goals and 15 assists for 26 points. He is a +24 with 19 penalty minutes, 51 shots on goal, four faceoff wins, three blocked shots, 54 hits, 13 takeaways, and seven giveaways.

This was the second notable game Marchment has had this season. On January 31, he tied the Panthers record for most points in a game with six in an 8-4 Florida win over the Columbus Blue Jackets.

The Panthers meanwhile lead the Eastern Conference with 73 points. They have a record of 34 wins, 10 regulation losses and five losses in extra time.
